I don't think it's that. I like your big bear face just fine, and you wouldn't eat me.
[She looks back up at Emi, into her best friend's bright yellow eyes. For some reason she had thought that, just maybe, Emi didn't like girls that way, and that was why they weren't dating. But Emi's answer has pretty much blown away that possibility.
There's a brief look of hesitation in Rin's eyes, as she looks up at her friend's face. She can feel the bear's warm breath on her, smell the fruit she's just eaten. It's an intimidating sight for many humans, of course, but to Rin it's a comforting one. This is her friend, her protector... Maybe something else too.
She's afraid, though. Change is a scary thing, especially to Rin. The scariest thing in the world, really - she can't imagine what she'd do if her life were different in any significant way to the way it is now. Her world isn't without it's issues, of course, but she loves being a goblin and being an artist - all her needs are met. She can paint as much as she likes, she lives in a city full of humans she can feed off of, and she only ever really needs to sell paintings when she wants to buy something - a new tie or a ring or some new art supplies.
Likewise, her relationship with Emi is fantastic the way it is. Emi is, without a doubt, the most important person in the world to her, and they're both happy living together like this. Does she really want to change that?
Or perhaps the question should be: Would anything really change at all?
They've already crossed so many boundaries, after all. Personal space means nothing to them, privacy between them is a mostly unneeded luxury. What would change, really, if they were to become linked romantically as well? It isn't as if they weren't already firmly bonded with each other every other way but physically.
Maybe it wouldn't be so bad? Of course, it matters what Emi thinks of this situation.]
